U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Matthew T. Abbate, 26, of Honolulu, Hawaii, assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Pendleton, California, was killed on December 2, 2010, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He is survived by his wife Stacie Rigall, son Carson, mother Karen Binion, father Salvatore Abbate, and siblings Dominica Abbate, Elliot Abbate, Valerie Binion, and Kelly Binion.

WHAT: Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Affiliates for Hope
WHEN: Saturday, June 9, 2012
WHERE: John Marshall Park, Washington DC
COST: $7 for registration (goes up to $12 in 10 days), plus fundraise $30 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
WHY: For those of you that have been doing CrossFit for a while, you know Fight Gone Bad. Well, turns out CFHQ and Sportsgrants got into a little scuffle and the fundraiser known as Fight Gone Bad no longer exists. In its place, CFHQ is partnering with St. Jude Children’s Hospital for “Hope.”

  1. Thought I was going to get a 2-hour nap on the coach today, but nope… 15 people showed up. Lots of World Records to be had. Tommy running around in a white t-shirt (WR), Jer inventing kipping DB curls and doing one of each CF movement (WR), Don finding his inner Ranger long thought lost (RLTW) and kicking ass (WR), Amy G running for two (I count her as having run 5 miles) (WR), Matt F for rocking out to his own iPod (WR) and rx’ing this and Kristin S for kicking ass on rowing Abbate on a Tuesday (WR).

    Great workout, great people, great tribute.

    We are still fighting a war, many will continue to fight their own personal war long after they have left the battlefield. Keep our vets in your thoughts, both alive and laid to rest.

    It poured rain, then stopped, and then the sun came out. The humidity was a good taste of the summer of hell yet to come.

    • I have an alibi on this.. I can’t remember if I went the long way around the building on the last mile.. If not, that adds probably 10-15 seconds. I was a little dizzy at that point. Thanks alot Chipotle!!
